Description (Morphology) :

Trees to 8 m tall; young branches glabrous; stipule 3-5 x 3.5-7 mm, under surface hairy and glandular, outer glabrous; cusp 1-2.5 mm long. Leaves opposite, 7-23 x 3-9 cm, elliptic, oblong, obovate, oblong-oblanceolate, ovate or elliptic-ovate, apex obtuse, acute, acuminate, retuse or apiculate, base acute, smooth, coriaceous, glabrous on both the surfaces; lateral nerves 10-12 pairs; petiole 4-17 mm long, glabrous. Corymbs 5-13 cm wide, open, sessile or subsessile; peduncle up to 2 cm long; bracts 0.8-1.3 cm long, linear-lanceolate, acute glabrous or pubescent, lower most bract 2.3-3.3 x 0.7-1.8 cm, leaf-like, sessile, ovate or obovate, acute. Flowers white or pale green, faintly scented, central flowers of the trichasia sessile and ebracteolate, others pedicelled, bracteolate; pedicel 1-2.5 mm long, pubescent or glabrous; bracteole 2-7 mm long; linear, acute, glabrous or pubescent. Calyx-tube 1.5-2.5 mm long, pubescent or glabrous; lobes 3-12 mm long, lanceolate or oblong, pubescent or glabrous, acute. Corolla-tube 15-35 mm long, glabrous; lobes 5-10 x 2-5 mm, ovate-oblong, obtuse; filaments 1-2 mm long, glabrous; anthers 2.5-5 mm long; style 17-37 mm long, glabrous; stigmatic arms 1.5-2 mm long; buds greenish brown. Fruit 7-10 x 6-10 mm, globose, glossy, black or reddish, blue at maturity.
